Week 37

The city decided to have a curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. through the end of the year, but it's voluntary. About the only good it will do is for businesses (like convenience stores and gas stations) that would like to cut back hours without getting too much static from customers. One of the TV stations ran a poll asking people if they would personally comply and about 1 in 5 said they would not.

The homeless are exempt, so I guess if you want to be out ratting around on New Year's Eve, here, leave your ID at home, if you don't want to get a lecture. Of course the police might suggest they take you to a shelter more earnestly than in passing.

By coincidence the city's bulk trash pick-up in my area is Monday. So I'll probably go out and chop on my prickly pears again this Friday. I can actually put more pads in the trash can for Tuesday than I can set out on the street for Monday. But it will look like I'm being community spirited.

I'm all set for tomorrow. The Cornish hen is thawing. I have butter for the wild rice. There are lots of veggies to choose from. I can take the pecan pie out of the freezer in the morning. I have sparkling grape juice for dinner and hot chocolate mix for the evening.

Besides the Covid news which has been uniformly bad, much of the news has been talking about how poorly Trump's legal team has been performing. Well, they haven't had much to work with and Trump is insisting they keep working. As he might say, "It's the greatest losing streak ever!"

Vaccine news is encouraging. But with medical personnel and first responders to take care of first, even us oldsters are going to have a wait.
