Unmasked
I made a nostalgic trip to the stores Tuesday, because the Tucson City Council was meeting to discuss the local mask requirement that evening. It was obvious they were going to drop it. So the shopping trip (grocery, hardware store and bookstore) was likely going to be the last one wearing a mask at least if we don't have another big surge in the coming weeks. People who haven't been vaccinated are supposed to keep wearing masks, but when they can get away with cheating, many will.
Everyone was wearing a mask everywhere here, on Tuesday. (Peer pressure does work.) Today with the absolute requirement gone, a surprisingly large percentage of the shoppers at the grocery were still wearing masks, way more than half. As expected employees were still mostly wearing masks, but noticeably some of the oldest who were not dealing directly with customers were not. Most of the shoppers who not wearing masks were younger, 40 or less. Thus I'm guessing, given the low vaccination rates for the mass of people under 55 that most of the people not wearing masks, may well have been cheating. I brought my mask in the car just in case, but did not wear it.
