RIP Dr. Sally Ride.

She was the last of our real astronauts who stood out and was instantly recognizable (even after other women went into space). The unfortunate Christa McAuliffe was strictly a passenger courtesy of the NASA publicity department, after Reagan said he wanted a teacher in space. But Sally was the real deal and earned her trips to space from start to finish. I'll never forget the sorry sight of her hair, weightless in space. ;o)

Ride, Sally, ride! We're all proud of her and her accomplishments.

Also glad that she's being recognized as one of the first (if not the only ) gay astronauts.

I was shocked to hear that Sally Ride had died. She was one of my heroes. I remember toasting her 1st mission w/a glass of Space Shuttle Rosé. She did so much to get girls interested in science, esp. telling them it was OK.
