If repairmen come to your house and don't do a double take at how many books you have, you don't have enough.

Interior decorators who say books are clutter, are not welcome in my house.

We didn't have tons of books in the house when I was little, so I'm compensating!

Boy, am I glad I mostly gave up reading fiction long ago. It gives me more time for the rest of the bookstore!

Amen, brother, except with me it would be LP records, CDs and DVDs. I had to move all the magazines to the basement several years ago, all wrapped in heavy ziploc bags to protect them from the dampness. (Decades ago I had something like 23 magazine subscriptions, now there's-- two.)

I do have a respectable collection of paperbacks and book club hardbacks in the science fiction genre that I obtained roughly between my just-pre-teens and late 20's, but over time that collecting urge drifted to music and then later still into movies when laserdiscs came into being.

I do get a kick out of watching the PBS Newshour when something like 50 to 75% of the reporters report from their homes with a big wall of books behind them!

At times I had five or six magazine subscriptions at once. Some of the magazines like my computer specific magazine died quietly over time. I gave some of them up because of financial stress over time, including my subscription to the Russian Language version of Scientific American. More recently, of course, almost all magazines have lost the bulk of their subscribers and can't afford to be as good as they once were. Last year I gave up my last magazine subscription, to National Geographic which I'd had since the 70s, because in an effort to attract more subscribers they changed content so much, I just wasn't interested in it any more. I still look at magazines at the book store and occasionally buy one.
