Strange few days

I didn't sleep very long Monday night. One of the smoke alarms started chirping its exhausted-battery warning about 2 a.m. I had to get up and turn on the lights, get a battery, and the ladder to fix it. I wasn't going to get back to sleep with the thing chirping, but the light and activity got Sirius going and with him trying to find a place on me to nap, I couldn't get comfortable in the bed. I guess I should be happy I had a spare battery, but it didn't result in me getting back to sleep.

I was walking around in a weary stupor most of Tuesday. That night I went to bed very early, and seemed to sleep okay. Wednesday I went to the bank and the grocery store. Felt very tried in the evening so I went to bed very early again. It didn't work at at all, I was awake from about 3 a.m. on. I'd forgotten something important the day before so I went out again yesterday for the grocery store, and paid cash for the first time in quite a while. I forgot to get more batteries, but I still have one.

I decided it would be better to do a couple more stops before I went home again. I went to a hobby shop and browsed for awhile, didn't see anything I wanted to spend the money on. Then I headed to the bookstore. One of the things I was thinking about lying awake was getting older and perhaps having trouble driving. Right in front of me was a car driving really erratically. Like my sister, before they took her car keys away, this person was putting on the brakes about 50 yards before the traffic lights, whether the light was green or not. Annoying, but since they weren't slamming on the brakes, it wasn't particularly dangerous. However not so good, was that the person was trying to drive with themselves centered in the lane, instead of the car centered in the lane. This meant that about half the time that car had a wheel in the bicycle/bus lane next to the curb. I could not see the driver, but the car was full with senior citizen passengers. It felt good that a) I wasn't a passenger in that car and b) my driving is way better than that still.

I got to the bookstore and ran into one of my great nephews and his wife. It was strange in that it was the only time I've run into a relative when I was out and about, since I moved to Tucson and I have quite a few relatives here! It was strange enough that my great nephew blurted out "What are you doing here?" I replied cheerfully, "Looking for books like everyone else." and let them be.

I was exhausted when I got home, but stayed up till normal bed time and slept very well last night.

Yeah, the weird sleeping habits thing can be a hassle. I've had a growing battle with a chronic fatigue thing for the last two years, gradually getting worse. My doc seems to have no clue, or he's just writing it off as one of those age-related issues, like my also declining/erratic memory. I've recently settled on simply working around it, and now I typically nap for an hour to three almost every afternoon.

Fortunately, this will be the last year of my audio repair business (I'll do a bit of repair work here and there for long-term customers afterward, but the company will officially go away.) and that may help. Also fortunately, in the meantime, my natural waking/sleeping cycle is still as it always was, in that I'm an afternoon and evening person, not a morning / afternoon type. So, I can work from 1 AM to 5 AM and be actually awake, which is mostly what I'm doing now, and makes up for falling asleep at 1 PM!

Ahh, such fun, these golden years! ;-)
