Lost and Found

It's been an interesting if not very pleasant afternoon.

I couldn't find some papers I needed. Searched for about two hours and found them close to, but not where they were supposed to be. Later I went out to the local fast food place for an early dinner. The summer weather here tends to dry my eyes out, so when I got back I decided to switch from lenses to glasses, as I usually do. First lens comes out fine. The second one seems to come out, but I look down in my hand and it's not there. From long experience I carefully separate my fingers, turn my hand, check my cheek in the mirror, check the corners of my eye to see if the lens has slipped, but is still in my eye. Nothing. I carefully check my clothes, carefully step back and check the floor. Nothing. At this point I'm thinking about which drawer my old lenses are in so I can make do for few days if necessary. I find a likely candidate, and start the ritual of thoroughly cleaning it off and resoaking it so it won't make me blind. I've just about got it slicked up enough to put it in solution for a few hours before cleaning it again, when I see the missing lens off in a corner of the sink top under my razor. Whew!

I rewatched "The Train Job this morning with the idea of writing something for ATPo tomorrow (assuming it ever comes back). I wasn't coming up with much so I watched it again with the commentary. Well, it's not much of an episode... Can't blame Joss and Tim, though. Not bad for a weekend quickie.

I often find lost lenses all scrunched up in the corner of my eye (ugh) but just occasionally there's a little piece of blue plastic on the sink--much happier ending. But have learned to have lots of backup lenses wherever I go. You know about the cheap online contacts, I'm sure.

"Train Job"--the weakest link, in my mind. And wasn't it the first aired? No wonder...

Yes, the story is that Fox thought the original two hour "Serenity" was too dark, and insisted on changes. They then gave ME a weekend to come up with a one-hour pilot script, which turned out to be "The Train Job." At best, it's ho hum TV. Ex-ME person Gail Berman was supposed to be in charge of programming at FOX, but it's pretty clear there were too many people there with the right to say no, and no one person who could make the necessary decisions. So FOX programming was an unholy mess for years. Berman is gone, but I don't know if things are better. There were lots of interesting ideas, but every last one of them failed for one reason or another.

Damned Voy. We finally get something worth talking about (more than one thing; the Gathering roommate situations are *still* up in the air!) and they can't keep the server up and running. That thing's been working fine for months when not a single new post appeared on the board for days at a time.

It's just bizarre. Unlike the old days, they can't blame ATPo for overloading the whole system. We just had a nice amount of traffic.

I never blamed ATPo. I always blamed the EvoL Voynak Demon.

Wasn't it true that voy used to blame all its troubles on ATPo and Cross and Stake for being so popular?

Cross and Stake, maybe...if they blamed ATPo, I've blocked it out.

Dang those slippery little devils! I haven't even tried mine since the whole brain thing a couple of years ago. As I have to take my glasses off to see anything up close, I guess I'd have to put reading glasses on, if I was wearing contacts. Just doesn't seem to make any sense.

Maybe some day I'll be able to afford the laser surgery. My nearly-80-year-old father has had it, and doesn't have to wear glasses to drive any more!

;o)

Maybe that's what I should do. Yes, I have to wear reading glasses to read with my contacts in, which is why I usually take them out when I'm home.

I wore contacts for years and years, loved them. Until I started having trouble reading the labels on things in the store because my arms weren't long enough. I finally gave up on contacts when I realized I need bifocals. Now I just have to keep track of my glasses!

My sister has one lens for close vision and the other for distance. But, considering how many times I've put them in and had blurred vision in one eye for fifteen or twenty minutes, I'd be afraid of that. Glasses are certainly simpler.
