Bloom of the day.

This is the cousin of the bunch with the pink flowers last week. The plant is about four times as tall as those others and the flower is much bigger as well. The outside of the flower is the pinkish flesh color you can barely see in the petals around the outside. Most of the year it's an ugly stump of a plant, but the flowers are grand. Though this one has orange flowers, others of the same species can have white to pink to magenta flowers.

See, without the flower, I would think something that looked like that was dead, and would probably plough it up. Good thing I'm not a cactus watcher!
