The view from V-3

For not actually being on the lake it was about as good as it gets.

You can reconstruct the 180 degree view by matching the tree line near the main lake shore.

Most everyone stepped out on the balcony for a look at the full panorama, but the clouds of mosquitoes quickly drove us back inside!

The geese mostly stayed over at v-8 (messing the lawn), but we saw ducks and a variety of other birds in the sanctuary. The light spot out on the main lake in the first picture below is one of the paddle wheel boats. The dark spot in the air next to the house in the last picture is one of the swallows that darted around lowering the mosquito population on the wing.

There's a word that hasn't come up before--"mosquitoes." They are the bane of my existence! I am horribly allergic to mosquitoes and blow up like a balloon wherever they bite me, courtesy of a childhood spent in Southern Ontario.

Again, I think fate must have spared me this Gathering, though I would have braved it to see you all.

;o)

Both Scroll and (I think it was) Sheri had the same problem. Fortunately, the temperature was such that the mosquitoes weren't biting furiously. Scroll and Sheri each had one big welt to prove the mosquitoes did bite. I got bit once on the forehead (the mosquito did not live to fly away). But, considering how many mosquitoes were in the area it was not bad at all.

As I was sitting here, in Southwestern Ontario, scratching my mosquito bites, I came across your post. mwahahaha
I feel your pain - although thankfully I am not allergic. I don't know what my little boy smells like because every time I hug him I get a nose full of repellant.
And don't forget about our June bugs, beer bugs and black flies! It just makes you want to come back for a visit, doesn't it?

June bug! Oh, geez, I had forgotten about them!

I remember one summer when I was a kid, we had a June bug plague so bad you couldn't walk down the street without stepping on one. At night, you could hear the cars "crunching" down the road...ick!!

Thanks for the memories...I think...

Oh, gee, and gorgeous photos, of course. The view from "our" cabin really was spectacular, wasn't it?

;o)

[identity profile] cactuswatcher.livejournal.com 2006-07-03 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It really was. Those of us who got up early enough saw the hot air balloon go up a few times every morning and paragliders along with the usual assortment of power boats and jet skis out on the lake all day long.

Thanks for these. I never actually got around to taking photos off of the deck so now I have some. Excellent!

These are all reduced-size versions for posting. If any one would like the clearer, full versions of these or any of mine, I could email them.

I would like that very much, if you don't mind.

I am like a mosquito's main choice for an entree. Or at the very least their favorite moving buffet.

It was a gorgeous view!
Thank heavens for all the mosquito eating swallows.

Well this has been the case for me getting back. *So* much is missing. No up close mountains, no water... It seems really blank and far away here now. I appear to have misplaced the prairie love due to the mountain love. ::is fickle::

I'm a mountain lover. We have lots here in Phoenix including some I can see from my 'family room' window. But, I've only seen snow on them two or three times ever and no lake. Sigh.
