Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it today. Happy Columbus Day to those of you who think it's a great day for a bank holiday. Happy Monday to all.

For most of us the weekend is over, but it was a long one for me.
My poinsettia from last Christmas died over the weekend. It was still in the pot and it had teetered on the brink of dying a couple of months ago. I probably gave it too much water. It is possible to plant them in the ground here, and that would make the watreing safer. But covering them so they'll bloom at the right time, is a pain when they are in the ground with all the wind we have. Plus it might not have survived outside this year anyway. I had a third columnar cactus in the same group topple over from being top heavy, this weekend. Not enough rain causes all the watering to apply to the tip and the stem gets weak.

Friday in the middle of lunch I got so tired I laid down for a short nap. I slept most of the afternoon and woke up to discover I'd left the lunch meat out on the table. Grr argh!

On the bright side some generous watering last week did get the sage and fairy duster blooming again

The Diamondbacks won, which was nice. Both of my universities' football teams won, also. Not altogether a bad weekend, but a long one.

The pet hospital's open. My certification school's open. The pedicure place is open. The office where I'll be interviewing on Wednesday is open. Not much of a holiday! (well, except traffic is normal speed on Guadalupe street, which means school's out, and the bank is closed).

Big holiday

Back in MO the schools never closed on Columbus Day. It was a shock to go to Ohio St. where even the university closed.

Re: Big holiday

I think nowadays Columbus Day observances basically correlates with the size of the local Italian population.

Also, the Ohio State University is located in Columbus, Ohio. Which might have something to do with it.
