Buffy has been with me for a few days and I've had several blooms
Here's a picture of the same group of Parodia magnifica that I showed last week. I thought the biggest plant was finished blooming already, but I got some new ones.

I had two Gymnocalycium in the same planter bloom this weekend. This one is the prettier. In the first two pictures we have the bud just opening.

Here is the same blossom fully open. The color difference is real. Why some cactus flowers get more pale as they open is a mystery to me. It's still pink but much more faint.

Here is a completely different kind of cactus from Brazil. Some of you may remember this plant from an icon I used when I first started on LJ which was labeled "Happiness is a blue cactus." The plant is still quite blue although now the growing tips are green as scene in the picture. This is the first time I've seen this one bloom. I just missed it last year, I think. It's a night bloomer. My pictures I took last evening didn't come out very well. The odd thing in the pictures below is that the droopy picture was taken first this morning. The second one where the flower looks healthier if ratty is actually the flower closing up for the day. In the second picture you can see some old flower buds from years past that never opened on the other arm.

Finally a couple of pictures of Buffy I played around with. I was going to take more, but the hot season has set in, in Phoenix. In the first picture Buffy is right behind the night bloomer above.
