I was out pulling weeds this morning when I noticed something red on top of one of my cactus clumps, It looked like fruit from a distance but closer up it looked like it was throwing a party.
The blooms look a lot like the ones on Christmas cacti, if you've ever seen those, with the flower petals shooting out in defined stages from the center. One of my books says that hummingbirds pollinate them. This is the first time I've seen this one bloom. The frilly bits of green all around are the tumbleweeds I'm trying to pull out of the garden.
