The skies had a good cry last evening, so for the first time in a while it's mostly clear this morning like it usually is. It rained at my place about 7:00 pm. It was gentle and I didn't even know it had rained till I looked out. No gully-washer, just enough that I don't need to water at least a couple days. There was a full, half-circle rainbow off to the east as the sun set. Just too big to get a good picture of.

Bridge collapses, like the one in Minneapolis yesterday, are something that really scare me. Back in St. Louis there were bridges everywhere. The old ones built in the 1920s and 1930s were immensely strong. The ones built in the 1960s like the one that fell yesterday were not built to last forever. My father who helped build highways in Kansas in his twenties, warned me about the bridges being built in the 1960s for the interstate highways. Strong enough for the traffic, but not overbuilt to have a huge margin of safety, and not built to last.
