I watched the first episode of Castle last night and liked it a lot. Think of a cross between Murder, She Wrote and Bones. Nathan Fillion plays the wildly successful, mystery novelist, Richard Castle. Like Mal "Captain Tight Pants" Reynolds, Castle is a bit of a rake, does things his own way and has a marginal respect for the letter of the law. Castle has fewer hang ups, better connections, more money and a better sense of humor. Stana Katic plays a no-nonsense cop, Kate Beckett, who is going to have to put up with him.
The first plot is one you'd think you've seen enough of over the years. But the presentation is fresh and two main characters are instantly likable. The personal dynamic between Kate and Castle is a little like in Bones, the fun loving guy and the sober professional woman. But Castle is a lot more irresponsible than Booth, and Kate, though reserved is not as socially out of it as Brennan.
The first episode was very well written, and the script included some valuable writing tips to which other shows could stand to pay closer attention! It's not going to be a show you'll miss much if you don't see it every week. But I do recommend it.
