I just got a Christmas greeting phone call from my 88-year-old uncle. He told me an interesting story. I knew that his wife, my mother's youngest sister had talked him into becoming a dentist and eventually an orthodontist. What I didn't know is that she talked him out of becoming a basketball coach. The basketball coach at Kansas State wanted him to become his first full-time assistant shortly after World War II. But my aunt would have none of it. Thanks to the GI Bill he had several years of schooling available to him that my aunt insisted he take advantage of. I know even if he'd been successful and become a head coach somewhere in those days, he'd have never made as much as he did as an orthodontist, but it's still an interesting story.
