I watched the first episode of Ken Burns Prohibition last night. Besides being a cautionary tale about well intentioned political movements, I'm not very impressed with it. The first part dealt with the build up to prohibition. Maybe Burns' standard approach is getting tired or maybe the subject doesn't quite merit the approach, but I can't say I really want to hang around for the more lurid parts to follow.
Since no one else on my list has mentioned it, they say that Person of Interest drew one of the largest audiences for a pilot in a long time. I have to say that the pilot was very entertaining, but I don't plan on watching the show. The premise is that a billionaire do-gooder has limited access to big brother government surveillance and risk analysis of NYC. Each episode a name (actually a number) gets picked as the top focus of something bad that's probably going to happen according to the computer analysis. No one knows even vaguely what bad thing might be involved. So the hero (anti-hero, maybe) gets sent by the billionaire to stalk the person of interest until he can figure out what's going on and how to stop it. Even with good writing and acting the ick factor of the premise is so high, I think the show deserves to die an early death.
