Went to one of my favorite restaurants, a Greek/Italian place, today. I guess they are a little worried about their customer base because when I ordered my usual chicken kalamata pita-sandwich with a Greek salad, the waiter asked out of the blue, "Do you want hummus with that." I looked at him quizzically to which he replied "that comes with focaccia bread and I usually bring hummus with it." Okay. Don't know quite why they want to give away bread and hummus to sandwich buyers. But I tried it. The bread was fine, my sandwich and salad were excellent as usual. The hummus was horrible. Didn't know you could mess up hummus, but now I know.

It's not like I've never said this food is really bad to a waiter. Maybe once in a score years, but I've done it. Since it was essentially free and no one was forcing me to dip my bread into the hummus, I decided to just pretend like it wasn't there. The waiter was a young kid. He didn't need to deal with a bunch of grief. I suspect that not many repeat customers are going to ask for it again, and that if the recipe doesn't change, a lot of hummus is going to go back to the kitchen uneaten.
