It's over 110 F here every day this week. Very little to do except do inside activities and pray the A/C keeps working.

Olympics: I can't say it's entirely NBC's fault that the games have grown a bit tedious this year. Thanks to the event schedule, gymnastics dragged out to the point I didn't bother watching the individual events, for instance. But NBC's over-coverage has been a problem - far too much air-time of people standing around waiting for swimming and running heats to start; far too many mini-interviews of out-of-breath athletes repeating the same thing they said days before the games even started. I like watching volleyball, but showing three matches a day without enough editing is way too much. Basketball is off in Siberia in the depths of cable-land. The rowing events are fun, but showing heat after heat with no break isn't that good for the audience. There has been far more than enough water polo on in the daytime. If they show this much of the games in the future I hope the editing is better.

Victors: My favorite volleyball team won again. Yesterday in my local paper, Misty and Kerri were all over the front of the sports page in a photo of them as their semi-final match ended. In the foreground Misty is yelling with her mouth very wide open, and Kerri slightly fuzzy in the background just as wide-mouthed in joy. Inside the sports section was a picture of one of the women from the other US team with her mouth open celebrating her team's win. But her mouth was noticeably smaller. I thought, now that's the secret weapon in women's volleyball: having a huge mouth! Yesterday afternoon one of the web-sites had a picture of Misty and Kerri, facing each other, mouths wide open in shouting for joy again after winning it all. I couldn't help thinking they were playfully chanting at each other when the photo was taken, "Who won the gold medal? You and your BIG MOUTH!" Teasing aside, thanks for the memories to two gorgeous ladies, Misty and Kerri!

ETA: I forgot to mention I saw the pilot of Matthew Perry's new show, Go On, last night. It was more okay than good. It looked like yet another terrific idea for a movie, that may or may not make it as a series. Maybe someone also needs to decide that Perry is better in a group of equally talented people rather than when he tries to do it all on his own.
