I haven't been sleeping at all well the last few nights so if this post seems more over-the-top than usual I apologize.
I watched two new shows last night, Last Resort and Elementarry.
Artistically Last Resort was far better than I ever expected. But I will never watch it again.

I am tired of my country using its power carelessly. I am tired of people from other countries taking verbal and literal pot shots at my country out of fear and hatred. We have seen this very month how people thoughtlessly exercising the right of free speech (abetted by media with ill will) can cause the deaths of people from other places around the world. We have seen this very month how media thoughtlessly exercising its right to publish what it pleases can make a mockery of personal privacy. The world is in a terrible crisis and the show Last Resort can do nothing but incite fear and hatred of my country. I want it off the air and I will cast my vote in that direction by refusing to watch it or discuss it beyond this post. The show is too violent for its time slot and too insensitive to the world it's being shown to.
Moving on, I can now understand why what seemed such an appealing idea for a new version of the Sherlock Holmes tale got such poor reviews when the pilot was previewed early in the summer. The show would have been fine, but Johnny Lee Miller as Holmes mumbled his way through the whole freaking hour. I'm getting older and perhaps my hearing isn't as good as it once was, but in the past week I've heard and easily understood what must be hundreds of people talking on television (including the rest of the cast of Elementary) in at least four different languages (English, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese) with the TV set at the same volume setting. I could not understand half of what Holmes said and it seemed like he was talking constantly. To be fair his voice sounded much more distinct and his words more clear in the previews for next week, so hopefully this nonsense is a one time thing. But why in the world would you present your new show to the world in such a crappy fashion?
