Procedural cop show. I thought it might be interesting. It wasn't particularly. If you didn't know this show was shot for the continental European market, you'd have a hard time figuring out why the police work is so out of tune with American practice. That's sort of the beginning of the show's faults. Imagine Castle, if Rick were an illegal immigrant taxi driver, not just charming, but wise beyond his occupation and Kate were an annoying, more than slightly dense cop with little analytical sense and less skill at driving. Imagine that both of them are a little short on knowledge of the American legal system.
The taxi driver is the center of interest of the show and the cop is just window dressing. Sadly the show tends to fixate on the window dressing, first; flattering shots of NYC, second; and the center of interest, third. The show begs to be comedy (think Castle again), but while trying to be amusing, doesn't quite reach amusing.
Female lead cop and medical examiner dress in jarringly immaculate casual. Kate Becket of Castle may dress nicely, but she doesn't come out of a car wreck looking like she just put on her freshly pressed, oh-so casual blouse.
You could excuse the taxi driver's kid's awful, neither-fish-nor-fowl accent, since the show was originally dubbed in French and no one would hear it. But the show was shot in English, obviously with the hopes of showing it in Britain or here. You wish they'd dubbed the kid in English as well.
Overall the show is not horrible, just not good enough, and very jarringly inaccurate in spots. Twenty minutes of it was plenty for me. I doubt NBC would have ever touched this show if it weren't looking for relatively inexpensive summer filler.
