I ate at a Five Guys Burger place for the first time today. It's often called an East Coast equivalent of an In-and-Out burger. The Five Guys burger reminds me of the kind of thing you used to be able to get at a bowling ally or a bar. Five Guys doesn't seem to season the meat much, so much of the flavor is from the toppings, and I wouldn't recommend it first for those folks who want their burgers plain. They are generous with the toppings and I appreciate that grilled rather than fresh onions are standard in the eight topping 'with everything' burger. You can have the fresh onions if you wish. The fries are cooked in peanut oil and are a tad, not a lot, on the greasy side. The small portion of fries is plenty generous. In-and-Out reminds me of what McDonalds was like when I was high school and before they started trying to be all things to all people. Five Guys restaurant reminds me of a less classy version of the Midwest hamburger chain, Steak-and-Shake. In-and-Out has milkshakes, Five guys doesn't. I prefer In-and-Out, but Five Guys isn't a bad choice.
