I was woken up yesterday about four in the morning by a bright flash outside. A second or two later it sounded like something really big shook the whole side of the house. A split second later I heard a distant boom, an echo off another building. The echo sounded like a big explosion but far away. It was meteor about three meters across and several miles above us. Much smaller than the one in Russia that created an Internet stir a year or so ago, but it still woke a lot of people up all over the state... I didn't know what it was at the time. I looked over at the cat up in his cat tree, and he was sitting there placidly. If it wasn't close enough to scare him, I knew I need not worry.
Also yesterday up in the high country, somebody found about 50 pounds of old dynamite in a shed near the main highway from Phoenix north up to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. Old dynamite is nothing to mess around with so they are going to close the highway this morning and blow it up in place.
