Back in Missouri, I had black raspberry bushes, and I competed with the deer coming out of the woods to get some every year. My dog had no interest in them unless I was out in the patch picking, in which case he would always stick his nose in among the thorns and have a few while I was there.
You'd think cats being fairly strictly carnivores wouldn't bother with most human snacks. But, yes, they do sometimes get the idea that if the human is eating something there must be something good about it. On Tuesday it was cherries with my cat. I was snacking on some in the middle of the day and Sirius just kept sticking his nose in the bowl, making like he was going to help himself even though they couldn't smell like anything he'd want to eat. Yesterday I had a few potato chips after dinner. Behind me I heard a crunch-crunch just like a person eating a potato chip. I must have dropped one. Yep, it was my cat, and he did bite into it more than once before he spit it out. If it had been a dog, of course, the chip would have been long gone by the time I turned around.
