I saw this movie last night. While I don't think I disliked it as much as most people did, there is no denying it had a serious case of lazy sequel-itis.
The first sequence in the movie, unfortunately, pretty much is a good metaphor for the whole project. Pre-teen Diana lines up to compete against the big girls. The race starts and soon it looks like all Diana has to do to win the contest is keep doing it all and watch where she is going. But she doesn't: she falls off her horse, doesn't 'touch all the bases' and takes a (ridiculous) short cut, hoping to win anyway. Her mother and her mentor stop her and tell her off, and she's left crying like the little kid she is. The movie, given the acclaim the first WW movie got, had every reason to take advantage of its head start and come out another winner. But the people making it didn't watch where they were going (i.e. didn't make a story that was even properly centered on WW), didn't touch all the bases (i.e. ignored continuity of the WW story) and in the end they got balled out by Mother and the Mentor (i.e. the fans and the critics in which ever order you choose).
There is no point in going into detail about what's wrong with the movie. There is so much wrong, it would be kicking a dead horse. But let's be honest. If it were a fan-fic written by a nine-year-old for other nine-year-olds, it would be a gloriously praise-worthy effort. Unfortunately this was a movie made by adults for people 13 and over and, as that, it's a lazily thought out mess.
