1. Cat Herders' Day: Have you ever had to do anything where it felt like you were trying to herd cats?
Getting one cat to go where you want it to, without picking it up, is hard enough! My usual phrase for trying to do the impossible is 'Trying to teach your cat to whistle.'
2.– Chocolate-Covered Anything Day: Is there anything that would not be improved by being covered in chocolate? What is your favorite chocolate-covered food?
I would certainly pass on chocolate-covered asparagus. My favorite would be chocolate-covered almonds.
3. – Wright Brothers Day: How do you feel about plane travel?
The experience of flying is fun even for someone like me who is acrophobic. But the security to board a commercial plane has really made getting on a long unpleasant process.
4. – International Migrants Day: International Migrants Day emphasizes the protection of migrants’ human rights. The day also recognizes the contributions and efforts of migrants around the world. Has anyone in your family ever migrated from one country to another? What would your country be like without migrants?
Everyone in the U.S. comes from immigrant families, even if the migration was thousands of years ago. My ancestors (mostly Germans, Irish and English) began arriving in North America 1630 and were all in this country before the Civil War.
5. Did you believe in Santa as a kid?
Sure, I was told early on that the fellow in the suit at the store wasn't the real Santa. My brother and sister let me know my father was the real Santa for our family before I was six. I remember thinking, at age six, what a big dummy my nearly eight-year-old cousin was, who was spending Christmas with us and still believed in Santa Claus. My siblings and I decided it wasn't our place to disillusion him.
My father always wrapped 'Santa's' presents in plain brown paper from his business, and when we kids knew better he kept wrapping our parents presents to us and his presents to my mother in brown paper, without putting his name on them. One thing I miss at Christmas is presents in plain brown paper under the tree.
