My sister has a habit of a greeting her dog, Buffy, with mock threatening noises which Buffy just loves. Of course, it did unfortunately teach Buffy to growl for very little reason, as well. Buffy and my sister are happy, growling at each other. But when she came to visit my house last week, my sister automatically made mock growling noises at Sirius , who was once her cat. Sirius did not appreciate the humor and spent four days not eating and under the under the bed where he normally doesn't set foot. I managed to coax him out at one point and picked him up to try to correct the problem. My sister did pet him nicely without Sirius frantically clawing me to get away, but when I turned him loose he slunk cravenly back into my room. My sister attended church denomination meetings the last few days and Sirius did come out briefly with a wary eye on the hall where my guest bedroom is. Yesterday my sister left for Tucson and Sirius soon realized she wasn't returning, probably because I took the hallway night-light down and put it away till the next visitor comes.

This morning Sirius is acting all brave and wants to go outside. Sorry, Kitty, you're an indoor cat now.
