Why did they bother increasing the field to 68 teams? This year I think rolling back to 48 would be more appropriate.
Eleven teams from the Big East? Seven from the Big Ten which everyone was admitting was substandard this year *before the conference season began.* The PAC 10 was very thin this year.
Don't look for replacements from the Big 12 this year. The guy on the selection show may have been crying about Colorado not getting in, but the folks in Denver weren't that shocked. Away from their home court at 6000+ feet and the overly chummy officiating they got there, Colorado stunk. The officiating was pretty bad all over the Big 12 with Colorado, Nebraska and Missouri all getting questionable home victories. Missouri lost more games than they gained from the bad officiating at home courts this year, the other two were pretty much frauds. K State is a good team when their star guard Pullen is not suspended and is awake on the court. Otherwise they aren't much good, even with him they are certainly not as good as they were last year. Kansas and Texas are good this year; A&M is a legit tournament team. Missouri and Kansas State wouldn't be missed if the tournament had fewer teams overall.
The seeding of the teams that did get in is puzzling. Kansas State a #5? I was honestly disappointed that Missouri was an 11th seed till I saw who they were playing (Cincinnati). Almost as if the Bearcats got jobbed. Las Vegas thinks so too, making the Tigers a one point favorite, probably based on the way the betting is likely to go. It looks like a classic 8 vs 9 game between two teams of contrasting styles. Either team could win, either could get blown out. But why are either of these teams fighting for a #6 seed in the tournament?
