If you thought the Boise State slaughter of Arizona St was likely going to be the worst bowl of the year, Baylor and Washington proved the contrary. At no point was it a competitive game. Fortunately from the the stand point of the announcers, it was the winning team Baylor that was out scored by *25 points* in the second quarter! The other three quarters Baylor simply abused Washington. Usually I call games with no defense at all "track meets," but this was more like both first-string offenses playing against second-rate intramural teams. Not hard to figure out why Washington lost so many games at the end of the season. Griffin, the Heisman trophy winner, threw for 295 yards, 140 yds less and three td passes fewer than Price the losing quarter back! I went to bed at the end of the third quarter with the score 53-49 knowing full well that it wasn't over, figuring there was no way in hell Baylor was going to hold Washington below 52 points or that Washington was going to keep Baylor below 60. If ever there was proof the rules need to be revamped to put the brakes on offenses, this was it. 67-56 would be a first rate score for a basketball game between these schools. A football game where the loser averages two tds per quarter is just an embarrassment.

I don't think there were rules enough in the world to save that game. I watched the second half, and Chris Spielman was absolutely apoplectic over the play of the defenses. Receivers routinely open by 10+ yards on curl routes. Baylor runningbacks going untouched down the field through giant gaps. Linebackers no where to be seen. Two teams with great offenses and abysmal defenses. (Baylor was ranked 114 our of 120 FBS, Washington 94)
