I was brushing up on my Scottish history this morning and was reminded that Queen Mary's four companions were actually named Mary, Mary, Mary and Mary. It's hard to blame anyone for not accurately following that bit of history on the show!
Remember Joan Baez singing Mary Hamilton (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-Gx7EwN3VY)? ("Last night there were four Marys, tonight there'll be but three)
I can't say I'm surprised about the names. I come from a line of Alexander, Alexander, John, Alexander, and John. And each of those people had children with the other name too. Crazy. Not fun for genealogical work.
One of my ancestors married two cousins (because the first, sadly, died very quickly) with the same last name and with first names that were peppered throughout the same families. Very easy to confuse our ancestor with the unfortunate cousin.

And the possum icon! I've seen that sad look on a possum-up-a-tree.
