I had an "Impossible Whopper" for lunch, Burger King's plant-based burger. Since most people seem to like it I wasn't surprised that it was good. Could you hand one to someone and fool them into thinking they were eating a regular burger. I think so. It looks pretty close, the taste is good and the texture is right. Does it taste like a normal Whopper. Not exactly, If I didn't know what I was eating and half way through someone asked me if I thought I was eating 100% beef, I think I'd have said no. I think I'd have guessed it was beef cut with something less fatty, like turkey or lean pork. But I would have thought it was meat unless I carefully examined the edges of the patty and realized the shape was entirely too perfect.
Is it vegan? I doubt it. Is it vegetarian? Well, the sandwich has mayo on it. Unless it was a vegetarian who ate eggs, they would have to ask to have that left off. Is it healthy. Well, the required nutritional info says it has less fat, but more salt than a normal Whopper. It does cost more than the regular, but it certainly is the best tasting plant-based burger I've had.
