| For The Record: A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia. A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one. A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions. You scored better than half in all Nerd, earning you the title of: Pure Nerd. The times, they are a-changing. It used to be that being exceptionally smart led to being unpopular, which would ultimately lead to picking up all of the traits and tendences associated with the "dork." No-longer. Being smart isn't as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful. Congratulations! |

Sheesh! I was looking at the comparison for age and gender when I wrote that. We're actually pretty close on everything!

They are reworking the ball fields in the park behind me, sponsored by the D'backs as they've been doing around the state. This one is going to be named after guess who? Shawn Green!! I guess he heard I put in a good word for him. ;o)
So, how've you been?

Very cool. I really like Shawn Green - he's my favorite Dback after Counsell. But, the Dbacks are killing me these days! What is going on with them? I'm going to the game Saturday with Jeannie, but can't say I'm really looking forward to it.
So, how've you been?
I've been good, thanks. But it seems like everyone around me is dealing with major life issues. Just in the last two weeks, my sister-in-law (in VA) went into anaphylactic shock from an allergy shot. Fortunately, she's okay, but it took two shots of adrenaline, some benadryl, and something else. Very scary.
And at work:
1) A friend's mom was in a bad car accident in OH so he went home for a week. She'll be okay, too, but will need some more surgeries.
2) Another friend's grandmother passed away last week so she went back to Louisianna for the funeral.
3) Another friend's mom fell a couple of times a week ago and has been in the hospital twice and will probably need hospice after that. Besides her many ailments, she now has problems from the fall, and they discovered that the unoperable aneurism she has has grown to near bursting so they're only giving her 3-6 months.
4) And yet another friend from work also had her mom in the hospital for a few days due to her blood pressure meds being out of whack. But she'll be okay (she just turned 90!).
And it's been the worst time for people to be gone because we've had five big projects wrapping up with reports due. So, with all the people out with emergencies, plus the people already out on vacation - and keep in mind there are only 14 of us to begin with, that only left a handful of us to get everything done.
And, next time I see you remind me to show you the pictures from my brother's car accident last month. It's never a good thing to get a call at 6:30am. Steve was on his way to work and was going from the 101 to the 51 when a rebar flew out of nowhere and went through his windshield and into his chest. He's okay, thank goodness, but he was very, very lucky. I'll give you the details next time we meet.
Aren't you glad you asked? ;-)

I'm glad your brother is okay. That is very scary!
Every time I get really frustrated with the Diamondbacks, I just think about last year. Even if they end up in fourth place, they'll still be so much better than that was! I think the pitchers just can't get any confidence going. They're better than they think they are.
