I was bored yesterday, and at this computer. I tried finding my high school girlfriend, something I'd tried and failed at every six or seven years ever since I had access to the Internet. This time instead of trying her married name, I tried her maiden name, and she popped up instantly, first name, maiden name and married name. It was on a social media site I'd never heard of. A glance or two at the info (college and high school), and there was absolutely no question it was her.
This year she'd been replying to some comments and questions to her on that site. Somebody apparently tried to trip her up asking her how she felt about the death of someone famous recently. Her reply was what I'd would have expected from her many years ago. She said it was a stupid question since the person in question was definitely still alive, and she called the questioner an idiot. Yep, that's her all right!
No. I'd never contact her. But it is great to know she's still around and feisty as ever.
She mentioned the work she'd retired from. One job was farming, described oddly which I presume meant it was her husband's idea after they left their salaried jobs. Farming isn't something a wife can let her husband do by himself, and they are still married, so I guess she liked it well enough. That was a bit of a surprise. Her other job was more of a surprise. She'd been a special ed. teacher. She had liked the idea of teaching back in the day and had even been a member of the future teachers' club in high school. But special education takes a lot patience and compassion. I can see her being patient. Hell, she dated me. But being patient and compassionate at the same time must have been something she grew into later. I had no problems with her. But a lot of my friends absolutely hated her, because of her sharp tongue and quick temper. I knew why she was that way, and my friends should have known, too. She'd suffered some horrible teasing early in high school, because of her appearance. Fortunately, by the time I got to know her and she got to know me, her braces were gone, and frankly she was gorgeous. I can't blame her for not always being kindly with people who'd tormented her.
