Mid March through mid April I had some disease that just wouldn't go away. I felt fine most of the day, but when the sun went down I felt like crap day after day. The symptoms were just a bad cold. It could have been a cold that just wouldn't go away. It could have been a mild case of COVID or a mild case of the flu, both of which were going around here at that time. It could have been a mix of all three, but the symptoms never changed. Finally in mid April it was over, and it was such a relief!

My cat has been very chummy at night, probably had some idea that I wasn't feeling well back when and wanted to keep me company. Now he's used to it and wants to keep it up. In years past early in the morning he'd snuggle up to my legs and he especially likes to get between my calves and sleep, which is nice for both of us as long as I don't turn over in my sleep. When the hot weather started in past years, he'd go away elsewhere especially to sleep in the guest room when he wasn't running around at night. I had to turn on the A/C this week so we'll see if he does that this year. Since the time I wasn't feeling well, he's been starting the night by putting his face in mine. Cats don't just have whiskers around their muzzle like in the cartoons, they have them all over their faces. That means having a cat's face near yours is like having a spider crawling on your face. A couple nights ago, my cat plopped down and put the back of his head in my face. (he likes my warm breath on him.) He's a short-hair and if he puts his back next to my face, it's nice. The hair on the back of his head stands up more, so it was like having a ball of bristly, human whiskers stuck in my face when I was trying to sleep. I kept having to back away. The only problem with him putting his back in my face is that it takes him a while to calm down, so his tail goes whap, whap, whap on the pillow (or my face) till he settles down. Warmer weather means it's shedding season and I brush him every day. But he'd go nuts if I tried to brush his belly. So he licks and swallows the loose belly fur. He has hair balls regularly this time of year. The rug doesn't show the results if I clean it up. The pad under the rug must really be disgusting! Yesterday he coughed one up on the guest bed, the first time he's done it on a bed in years. When that happens, I have to strip the bed and wash everything. I'm just glad it wasn't in *my* bed.

We have a communal mail box in this subdivision. About the time I was feeling good again somebody broke into the individual boxes in the middle of the night. I don't know if they got in my box or not. It was one of the few that wasn't badly damaged. (We wondered, why in the world, they didn't just open the back and get into all the boxes at once instead of prying them open one by one.) I know they wouldn't have gotten anything from my box, because I picked up mail the afternoon before, and got mail again the afternoon after (because my individual box still seemed OK to the mail carrier.) Some individual boxes had doors damaged so badly they could not be closed at all. We residents wondered when they'd replace the whole thing. Yesterday was the day. I went to the boxes and there was another resident trying their key. Neither his nor mine would open anything. I figured I'd have to go to the post office today, and ask. But about an hour later the mail carrier came to my door to give me my key personally. I don't remember how long it's been since a mail carrier came to my door. Certainly it was decades ago back in Missouri and long before I left there! In the old set I was box 13 on the far side of the thing as I walked up to it. In the new boxes I have box 1 on the side nearest my house. I'm #1. I'm #1. {/silliness} The new boxes have locks that are more secure than the old ones. I just hope the boxes don't get destroyed again.

I went out to lunch with my nieces last Saturday. My middle niece is still working, so Saturdays are best to see her. (Makes you feel old when your nieces are retiring!) I let her choose between last weekend and this. I knew the last weekend this month is Memorial Day holiday, so I didn't think that would be good. I forgot last weekend was Mother's Day. I like to go for lunch a little after 11:00, because restaurants usually aren't busy then. Everyone else must have been taking mom out for brunch. It took us about a half-hour to get seated. The crowd thinned out about noon when I'd think a restaurant would be busiest. I guessed wrong about everything that day.

Sorry you've been sick, but happy that you are feeling better now. In the evening only? Sounds like there might have been something in the air at night that you were allergic to - and it finally went away? (shrugs)

Your communal mail boxes sound similar to the mail boxes that we have in my apartment building, complete with keys. The fact that someone tried to wedge each open instead of the whole thing from the back - makes me think, maybe kids? Very odd.
