1. What’s your favorite hot beverage? How do you make it?

Hot chocolate. This winter I'm mixing plain old Swiss Miss mix with a Mexican brand, Abuelita (i.e. little grandma), which is heavy on malt.

2. When was the last time you saw an original hand-painted painting?

Seconds ago. I have several of my sister's paintings in my house.

3. Is there a book you’ve seen made into a film and been disappointed with the result?

Yes, but I can't think of any at the moment. It been quite a while since I read much fiction.

4. How old is the oldest book you own?

I used to own a couple of books from the 19th century, one in Swedish, the other in Finnish. I can't actually read either of those languages, but over the years I was able to figure out they were old-fashioned religious books (I think the Swedish one was anti-Darwin.) I decided I didn't need them any more and let them go when I moved to Tucson.

The oldest book I still have that I bought is a paperback Spanish-English Dictionary which I bought about 1960. The price on the cover is 35 cents. The oldest book I have was given to me by an aunt, who taught high school English and Spanish. It's a Brazilian school text book of beginning Portuguese language lit. The author signed it for someone in April, 1946. I can at least understand some of it from my Spanish.

5. It’s the 60th anniversary of the game ‘Twister’ – have you ever played it?

Once when my nieces were small. It's a pretty dumb game for anyone over the age of 12.

6. In 1869, Harper's Weekly published the first picture of Uncle Sam with chin whiskers. Do you know anyone with a beard or a moustache?

Me.

7. Is there a subject at school which you disliked, but you would consider learning now?

I had some bad classes, but I don't remember ever disliking the subjects.
