22. If you took part in a quiz, what would be your specialist subject?
Russian Lit? I did my PhD exams in Slavic Linguistics, but I can't imagine anyone wanting to watch that! Anybody remember Stockard Channing's TV show where she'd majored in Serbo-Croatian?
23. In 1895, Ngaio Marsh, New Zealand detective writer and producer, was born in Christchurch, New Zealand. Have you ever read any of her detective novels? If not, who is your favorite detective novelist?
No, Agatha Christie is my favorite.
24. It’s Barbara Streisand’s birthday – are you a fan of her music or movies?
I really enjoyed her music when she was a teenager. As she got older she got into more things I was less interested in. I still like her singing more than her movies.
25. When’s the last time you had to use a plumber?
Probably 15 years ago. I changed my water heater to a tankless version. really enjoyed having it, but the water in Tucson is just too hard for a tankless without major changes to the plumbing. By coincidence I did some toilet repair this morning. Nothing major.
26. Do you still have a landline, or do you only use your mobile phone/cellphone?
Yes. My oldest niece is insisting I have a cellphone, too. It's nice to send text messages. I often forget to take it with me when I go out, (when it would be very handy in an emergency.)
27. What sweets/candies do you remember from your childhood? When was the last time you ate some?
Jaw breakers that changed color the longer you sucked on them. Horehound drops which was candy from my mother's childhood. They still make them but I haven't seen them in ages. My brother liked lemon drops and jujubes. So did I. You can still get them, but I mostly I've given up on hard candy and moved on from jujubes to gummies. Again by coincidence, I bought some jujubes this morning.
My favorite candy bar as a kid was the Forever Yours. They still sell something similar called the Midnight Milky Way. I was the weird kid who really didn't like Snickers bars.
28. In 2004, Shrek the sheep from Tarras, Central Otago, New Zealand, was finally shorn live on TV after 6 years of avoidance; the fleece weighed 27 kg (60 lb). Do you own, or have you made anything from sheep’s wool?
I have a western-style hat that's wool. I presume it's sheep's wool.
29. When was the last time you received a letter (not junk mail)?
I get Christmas letters now and then, and I get complaints if I don't send them myself. I have an ATPo friend I send a card to on her birthday, and send a letter with that. She sends back long emails, which is fine as long as we keep in touch.
30. In 2018, Sweden's official Twitter account confirmed that Swedish meatballs actually originated in Turkey. Do you like Swedish meatballs? Ever had them in IKEA?
I'm not positive that I've ever had Swedish meatballs. Speaking of meatballs, I prefer loose ground beef in my spaghetti sauce to meatballs.
