I watched the whole OSU-Michigan game yesterday. Watching whole football games is something I rarely do anymore. It was a good game. But I still say that adding 20 points to each team's score by making passing easier doesn't make it a better game, it just makes it a longer game.
I was thinking about the universities where I went to school, and the different approaches they have taken over the years. One went for quality, raising entrance standards. I sure it's a better school than it was when I was there. The other went for quantity, building more buildings as fast as possible and making it easier for marginal students to keep attending classes. I doubt it's a better school than it was when I taught there. The one that went for quantity over quality still rates higher in the US News and World Report ratings and probably deserves it over all. The bigger school was a paradise for grad students. It was pretty good for upperclassmen as well. But I'd never suggest to anyone it was a good place to start as a freshman. In my morning paper the local university here, which has also gone for quantity over quality, was mentioned as in the third of four groups in the ratings. I wonder where it really belongs.
Some of those ratings by the way are just hilarious. Having lots of rich kids attend doesn't make it a good school, folks!
