I'd hate to abandon LJ. My flist is small on DW and my DW friend's page is overrun by an interesting but very prolific community. But with my dial-up connection it's getting next to impossible to get through to LJ on the weekends.

I would ask that people put all photos and youtube material behind cuts on LJ, Friday morning through Sunday afternoon US time and (Friday evening through Monday morning Russian time) till this nonsense is past. That would help speed up loading everyone's friend's page, and they'll still be able to get to what you want to show them.

I might also add that backgrounds you may have added to your personal LJ pages really cause problems for replying to you in times like these.

Suggestions to help you out, in case people don't put photos and YouTube videos behind cuts:

Under Dreamwidth's My Accounts > Display > Image Placeholders, make sure "Replace images on your Reading Page with a placeholder for" is set to "all images". Make sure the Video Placeholders checkbox is checked. For Entry View Style, use "my own style" or "light format". Ditto for Journal View Style. (I'm going to assume your own style is one that loads easily for you!)

You can do the same thing on LJ with image and video placeholders. For Other Journals and Comment Pages, make sure the checkbox is checked so you view everything in your own style.
