Something a little different today. Here's a picture of one with the blooms not fully open. Notice the outsides of the buds. Many cactus buds have these spots that show up just before the buds open, sometimes just hours before. It's one of the things you look for when you watching for blooming. Since it's rare for any of these blooms to last more than a couple days, you do have to keep watch! This plant is a hybrid of a couple different types of star cactus.

I guess they don't look much different here, but without the flowers, the top one is very tidy looking and the bottom one looks like a piles of green mud, decorated with ugly spikes. ;o)
