Real Christmas cacti are tropical and grow up in the branches of trees in lush forests. But some desert cacti bloom this time of year as well
Here's one of the cactus today. As the stick from the nursery reads, it's known as an Old Lady Cactus presumably from the flowery circle on the hat she wears, better appreciated in the second picture which I took back in the spring. Both show the white banding typical of these. Today the plant is inside due to freezing temps in the morning. It may be a few days before it gets to go back out again. This cactus is about the size of a cantaloupe.
