As I mentioned yesterday, it's been cooler than usual here this winter. So some of the winter bloomers are late this year.

This is the first of the indoor blooms this year. These Parodia are fairly dependable bloomers, but I've had a little trouble keeping them growing. The light isn't quite good enough in the south facing window because of the roof over the patio outside. Hence the fact this plant is lying down to face the sun. In the foreground is another Parodia with several branches which hasn't bloomed for me yet. It will have yellow flowers when it does. The bowl contains a third Parodia which is in the back on the right side. About all you can see in the pic is its distinctive curved spines. The picture clearly shows that the buds of the blooming Parodia are deep red, and that the flowers are a much lighter orange when they open.

I don't really pay a lot of attention to pro football. Most people here were trying to be neutral to not offend either group of fans. I did see the end of the game, but I didn't hear a lot of shouting one way or the other from the nearby Super Bowl parties.

Oh, I did! & car horn blowing--someone was even setting off fireworks (the squiggly kind). Then again, I'm in NY! I'm usually not that much into football either, but I can appreciate good football. I got home in time to see most of the last quarter, & that was some good football!
