Some may wonder why we keep a close eye on approaching storms in this part of the country. This past weekend was an excellent example of why. [livejournal.com profile] superplin posted that a big storm was bearing down on her last Friday. The radar looked ominous. She got maybe a quarter inch of rain from that first blast, Masq a little more. Several minutes later and about 15 miles downwind I got an inch and a half. The forecast for yesterday was a chance of rain but not a good one. I went out at about four and saw really ominous clouds to the east and southeast where Masq and Plin live. I got a nice gentle rain out of the storm. (Yes, it came from east to west again.) Masq's neighborhood got well over two inches, and the main, east-west, 12-lane highway in that area was closed for 3 and a half hours due to high water on the pavement.

Big storms that have been predicted for days can bring no rain to your neighborhood, if your not lucky here. Little showers that just blow up from nowhere in the afternoon can bring floods. That's the monsoon here.

It poured and poured. Luckily I was home in my cozy library nook. Unluckily, I was doing actual job-related work. After the storm blew off, I opened my patio door so me and the cats could get some fresh air. That was quite nice.

The water barreling off the highway made the news this morning. Pretty impressive.
