We had quite a bit of rain lately so the plants are responding.
This one bloomed earlier in June. You can see a green fruit just to the left of the blooms with more buds to the right.

Ferocactus Gatesii
This is a smaller sage than the last one I showed. The flowers are darker purple on this one and the leaves are mostly silver, with a little green when they are wet.

Silver sage
This is a plant you may have heard of, a Jojoba. The seeds are very oily and are collected for a number of uses including for hand creams and shampoo. The plant does grow wild not far from here in the mountains. Jojobas don't produce fruit unless there are both male and female plants in the area. I guess I did notice a few blooms early in the spring, but they were mostly unremarkable. Now I discover that the plant I have is a female and that one of my neighbors does have a male somewhere. The fruit must have been on it for a while, but I just noticed them today. Not many but the first I've seen in the wild or in my backyard.
