Bones was interesting last night, if for no other reason for how self contradictory it's getting, both consciously and otherwise.
We start with a nice little nature lesson about opossums. Bones demonstrated nicely that opossum are nature's way of laughing at the notion of 'survival of the fittest.' They survive mostly because they eat anything, grow fast and stay out of the daylight most of the time. For accuracy during the opening of the show, we had a slow speed chase with Bones chasing the possum away. I've followed one myself and I assure you that is exactly how fast possums 'run away.' For some unknown reason, next we had to have Booth playing dumb, and not knowing about 'playing possum.' Other than not hissing and not showing its mouth full of teeth, the show demonstrated the full range of possum aggression. I've never had a possum hiss at me. But having had one open its mouth, not very threateningly, I might add, has been and will be enough to discourage me from ever picking one up by the tail as Bones did.
Then for the bulk of the episode, we have the moral tale about dog fighting. Fair enough. But why does Bones not know the particular dog is going to be destroyed? Surely she understood that asking Booth to go after the possum meant it was going to be destroyed.
I really see no point in the psychologist hanging around the show. As they acknowledged last night with Jack, what seems to be a rough stretch of mental health can be just a normal means of coping. It makes sense to leave Jack alone. So why are Booth and Bones, who don't seem to have any problems real or imaginary, going to be continually subjected to the probing by this guy? I don't know. Another contradiction.

They do, however, have legendary immune systems. They don't get rabies and are unaffected by most snake and spider poisons. That's also a reason they survive.
