The stock market tumbled today on news the US has been in recession since last December. Um, why was this a big shock? Have some of these investors been living incommunicado for the last 18 months?

I've also had it with sports reporters griping about Oklahoma going to the conference championship. Yeah, I thought Texas should have gone, instead. But for crying outloud, the BCS was the 5th tie breaker. And no 8-team playoff was going to accept all three teams. So, reporters, if you didn't want it to come down to a coin flip, you need to get on with your lives.

I was wondering the same thing about the market. Where have they been? Everyone has known we have been in financial crisis for months. The traders seem like feral dogs who are scared to death.

Yeah, I thought a recession was officially 2 negative quarters in a row. So why should it take a year to declare it?
