Today, from stltoday.com the site of the St. Louis Post Dispatch newspaper.
Snowfall totals of 7-12 inches have been reported across the metro area through late morning. Forecasters expect as much as 2 more inches to fall today, and say the storm will leave 10-15 inches of snow and a light glaze of ice by the time it ends Sunday. (my emphasis)
I'll lived in a house near the woods with lots of trees in the yard. Ice on top or ice on the bottom of the snow. It wouldn't take much of a light glaze of ice to have small tree branches down everywhere. The temperature different by a few degrees and you have a goodly coating of ice, which would bring down larger branches and power lines with them. I saw it happen all too often.
