I've been living in Tucson about a month. I've had some surprises in my own backyard. There are large vines growing on the back wall. When I was first looking at the place I thought they were whatever decorative vines. After a little haphazard watering by me, they appear to be some kind of grape vines. That means they will need regular pruning to keep them from taking over the world, but it's possible I might get some grapes in the summer. The nondescript little shrub outside the kitchen window turns out to be an orange tree, and it's blooming now. There was a scruffy looking low plant near the shed that looked for all the world like a tough weed, that I decided to spare from the weed eater because it had interesting looking leaves. A little watering has made it clear the weed is a rose bush, that someone before me had cut down to almost nothing. There is a bud on it, but it should take a little while to bloom. On the less nice side the wind was blowing hard all afternoon yesterday and somebody's empty plastic kiddie wading pool blew over the wall into my backyard. I have no idea which direction it came from. I'd have put it outside the wall today for the owner to find, but it's still windy enough I think it would just blow on down the street.
