Finally getting over the flu. It was only bad enough to stay mostly in bed for the first weekend, but it didn't seem to want to go away.

I went to a home owners meeting, last week (low attendance, I could sit by myself and not infect anyone.) A poor lady there was complaining about pack rats infesting her yard. She moved in sometime last year next to a house that has been vacant a long time. She had an exterminator come, and though he cleaned out a big nest in her yard, he thought there were probably more on the vacant property. Desert pack rats are more like big mice than the usual city rats, but they are destructive. I went out the next day after the meeting to take all the fruit off the orange tree. Most of it was shriveled to a husk, but there was an orange or two on it that any rat would love to nibble on. I don't trust any fruit on that tree from the past season, so I decided to get rid of all of it shriveled or no, before it fell to the ground and attracted vermin.

The roses are still blooming. With the cursory watering I've done out front there are a few stray purple blooms on sages out front.

For whatever reason there are a lot more old folks (my age) in this neighborhood than the one I left. I saw a little kid ride by on her tricycle this morning so it isn't all retirees. But the percentage of geezers seems high. The percentage of people who walk their dog through the neighborhood is pretty high too. In my old neighborhood there were several dogs, but they mostly did their business in their own back yards. There is a long haired cat that lives close by that likes hanging out in my yard, chasing the doves, resting in the shade or the sun depending on the time of day. It usually takes off when it sees me through the back door, but I'm not trying to bother it. My cat likes to watch it in secret, hiding behind blinds he could easily get past. Sneaky cats!
