In case you are not on Little Bit's LJ list, her Facebook account was hacked and false urgent requests for money were sent out. Please be careful to verify identities before sending money to anyone.

Unfortunately, I think that's a different hack. This one is a phishing scheme, though I'm a bit befuddled about how the hacker expected people to get the cash to anyone but Bit, given that there's no place given to send the funds unless the recipient contacted Bit herself for such information.

That e-mail account of hers apparently is in the hacker's control at the moment. So once the hacker got a live one, who asked for further info carelessly, the place might be sent. Even if it's just a prank this time, it's a pretty cruel one.

I assume if anyone had responded further the scammer would have asked people to send funds to some Western Union office in London, where they could have impersonated her and picked it up.

I got that email, and immediately deleted it. I knew 'Bit would be a whole lot more articulate, and she would spell better, too!
