Also in the quickly corrected department, on a local TV news the reporter mentioned the county police department's new heavy weapon a "50 machine caliber gun..." which without comment he pronounced moments later as "50-caliber machine gun."
Hot off the wire. The Green Bay Packers have asked the Big 10 to consider Lambeau Field in Green Bay for the first Big 10 Championship football game next year. Sixty years ago Ohio State and Michigan played on a blustery day in the snow at Columbus and they are still talking about it. One game at Lambeau Field in December might well be the last as well as the first conference championship game there. How about a night game for the maximum TV audience?

Our county sheriff Joe Arpaio is more than a tad over the top. But in this case, at least, there was a reason.
There was an incident in Pinal County to the south of us where a group of drug smugglers chased off from an uninhabited section of Interstate 8, a police officer, who had no backup and nothing but his service revolver. The county officials there immediately said they didn't the fire power to patrol that section of highway any more. Maricopa County has more massively more resources to begin with, and Arpaio is not one to avoid making a show of force for political or crime fighting purposes.
To answer your next question - The federal government has been investigating Arpaio and the way he spends his budget for over a year now.
