As if the threats of conference juggling earlier this year were not enough.

The Mountain West will gain more teams and may lose another. Nevada and Fresno St. have accepted invitations to join the MW which certainly will do no good to the WAC as it is already losing Boise St. Word comes this morning that BYU wants to be independent in football and to quit the MW. The plan was for them to join the WAC in other sports ala Notre Dame in the Big East. But since the WAC seems to be disintegrating that plan may have to be rethought.

My local sports reporters aren't exactly the brightest, but one of them did make a good point this morning. Unlike Notre Dame, many schools are not exactly eager to schedule BYU. Not only is there no giant financial plus with playing BYU, but due to Mormon religious missions the players at BYU tend to be a couple years older than everyone else's. The NCAA even waves the 5-year-rule for guys who start college before going on their missions.

BYU might be positioning themselves for a PAC-whatever larger than 12 teams, but I'd say that's risky at best.
