This seems to be a transitional year. The rule changes last year seem to have shut down the pass happy offenses . So there have been more successful running offenses this year. I said a couple of weeks ago I'd never seen the pistol offense do well against a decent major college team, now I've seen it twice. California seem to just throw up its hands and not defend Nevada a week ago. Texas offense mostly self-destructed yesterday, but UCLA's offense didn't look like the feeble mess it was against Kansas St a few weeks ago. It was changed slightly. UCLA's quarterback was standing two steps closer to the center so the plays were developing faster. It really looked like the quarterback could have stood two steps closer still and had a full back behind him. Yes, it looked like the I would have worked nicely against Texas yesterday. Neither Nebraska nor Oklahoma was impressive yesterday. Alabama was the better team but easily could have lost yesterday. Expect the unexpected this year.

Phoenix tries to ignore anything that happens in Tucson. ASU always gets top billing here. But it's hard to ignore that the Wildcats are pretty good this year. Personally I have been listening to the U of A games on the radio.

They had a rough time last night.
